Easy and Delicious Carrot Fries
Getting kids to eat vegetables can be challenging. My daughter will eat almost any fruit or vegetable that crosses her path. On the other hand, getting my son to eat produce is hard. He enjoys avocadoes and broccoli, but everything else is hit or miss. For example, one day he loves bananas and the next he hates them. It’s a rollercoaster! One thing he consistently loves is fries, so I got to thinking; what veggie could I make into fries without him being suspicious? Easy and Delicious Carrot Fries look enough like sweet potato fries that he didn’t question them. Better yet, he happily eats half of this recipe every time I make it. That’s about 2.5 carrots worth of veggies!
EQUIPMENT
Other than a mixing bowl, you’ll need an air fryer. I LOVE the Ninja Foodi 11-in-1 and the Ninja Foodi 5-in-1 Indoor Grill. They both have an array of capabilities that serve us nicely in our limited-space kitchen, and they both have an air-fry feature.
INGREDIENTS
All you truly need for these are 3 ingredients: Carrots, olive oil, and salt. I enjoy using this garlic-infused olive oil, or the one from Trader Joe’s. Garlic and olive oil combined are crazy delicious and also provide antioxidants and nutrients for an immune-boosting treat. If you don’t have any garlic-infused olive oil on hand, don’t worry- you can use regular olive oil and add garlic powder (or omit if you’re not a garlic person!)
- 1 tablespoon garlic-infused olive oil (or regular olive oil)
- 4 to 5 large carrots
- 1/2 a teaspoon of salt
Optional ingredients
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder if using regular olive oil
- 1 teaspoon onion powder for an extra pop of flavor
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper for a bit of spice
I have made these with the basic three ingredients, and with all of the optional ingredients and they are delicious all the same. Both versions are also kid-approved!
HOW TO MAKE EASY AND DELICIOUS CARROT FRIES
Step 1:
Preheat the air fryer to 375°F.
Step 2:
Wash and peel carrots, then cut them into fries.
Step 3:
Add cut carrots to a mixing bowl and add olive oil and salt (and onion powder and black pepper if using) Toss with a spoon or tongs to evenly coat carrot fries.
Step 4:
Place fries in the air fryer and cook for 8 minutes. Shake the air fryer basket. Cook an additional 8 minutes or until the fries have reached the desired crispiness.
Step 5:
Serve with your favorite dipping sauce and enjoy!
Tips
- Opt for large carrots that are firm and fresh for the best results. Larger carrots are easier to cut into fries and will cook more evenly in the air fryer.
- Try to cut the carrots into evenly sized fries to ensure they cook at the same rate.
- Make sure to evenly coat the carrot fries with the garlic-infused olive oil and seasonings in the mixing bowl.
- Avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket with carrot fries. Cook them in batches if necessary to allow for proper air circulation and ensure even cooking.
