Greatest Guiltless Tropical Guava Margarita

A margarita recipe for Cinco de Mayo, what could be more… stereotypical? Maybe even a bit tacky. I get it. However, I love a reason to celebrate almost as much as I love a good margarita and for those reasons, I’ll willingly be tacky. Cinco de Mayo or not, with spring in full bloom I was looking to stray from my usual glass of wine. Our waiter at dinner one night recommended the ”guavarita”. Reluctantly, I went with it. I thought it wouldn’t really be my style. Boy, was I wrong. I was obsessed. Two guavarita’s later, I told my husband it was now our mission to recreate it at home with healthier ingredients. Sweet, flowery, tropical guava pairs perfectly with earthy tequila, sweet agave, and tart lime to make the Greatest Guiltless Tropical Guava Margarita.

HEALTHY INGREDIENTS

  • Guava juice: Guavas originate from Mexico/Central America. They are also full of nutrients. This fruit offers a long list of health benefits from improving eye health to providing hydration and nutrients in hot weather.
  • Fresh lime juice: Limes are high in antioxidants and vitamin C. Drinking lime juice can also help immunity, increase iron absorption, promote skin health, and more.
  • Agave: Agave nectar comes from the same plant used to make tequila. It makes a great, natural replacement for sugar. In addition, it packs some surprising health benefits. The Vitamin K and folate in agave may help with symptoms of depression. It could also improve heart health and metabolism.
  • Tequila: Alcohol is obviously not a health food, but choosing high quality alcohol to drink in moderation can offer some benefits. Tequila can aid in digestion, help prevent osteoporosis, and help a person fall asleep (surprise, surprise!) Additionally, it contains probiotics and prebiotics. Plus, if you’re getting tequila that is 100% agave it’s probably not going to give you a hangover.
    • My family loves Teremana Tequila and Hornitos Tequila. Both have a selection of tequilas that are 100% pure agave, AND they’re sold for a really great price (if you ask me).

FAQ

Can I use a different type of juice instead of guava juice?

While guava juice adds a unique flavor to the margarita, you can use other fruit juices such as mango, pineapple, or even orange juice.

Do I need to use triple sec in this recipe?

Triple sec adds a hint of citrus flavor and sweetness to the margarita, but it’s optional. Feel free to omit it if you prefer a simpler version of the cocktail.

How can I make a salt rim for my glass?

To rim the glass with salt, simply run a lime wedge around the edge of the glass to moisten it, then dip the rim into a shallow plate of salt until it’s evenly coated. This step is optional but adds a nice touch of flavor and visual appeal to your margarita.

Conclusion

Mixing up a guava margarita is an easy and enjoyable way to add some tropical flair to your cocktail repertoire. With just a few ingredients and a shake of the cocktail shaker, you’ll have a refreshing drink ready to enjoy. So gather your ingredients, shake it up, and Enjoy.
