Really Easy Russet Potato Fries
In the past few years, cauliflower has become the new rice and the new potato. Want fried rice? Use riced cauliflower. Mashed potatoes, anyone? Mash some cauliflower instead! I love cauliflower, but one thing it can’t one-up potatoes on is French fries. Not to mention, potatoes are incredibly nutritious. They’re loaded with vitamins A, B-Complex, C, and essential minerals and antioxidants. These Really Easy Russet Potato Fries are delicious, healthy, and simple to make. You’ll never make frozen fries again, and you’ll fall even more deeply in love with your air-fryer!
EQUIPMENT
Other than a mixing bowl, you’ll need an air fryer. I LOVE the Ninja Foodi 11-in-1 and the Ninja Foodi 5-in-1 Indoor Grill. They both have an array of capabilities that serve us nicely in our limited-space kitchen, and they both have an air-fry feature.
- Large bowl
- Air-fryer
INGREDIENTS
- 1 large russet potato (or 2 small ones, totaling about 6oz) unpeeled
- 2 tsp olive oil or avocado oil
- Salt
- Pepper
Optional ingredients:
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp smoked paprika (this adds some nice flavor and coloring)
HOW TO MAKE REALLY EASY RUSSET POTATO FRIES?
Step 1:
Clean the potato then cut it in half lengthwise. Cut into 1/4 inch slices, then cut slices into 1/4 inch sticks.
Step 2:
Rinse well, and pat dry with paper towels.
Step 3:
In a large bowl, toss fries with olive or avocado oil, salt, pepper, and any desired optional ingredients.
Step 4:
Add fries in an even layer to the air fryer basket. Cook at 400°F for about 8 minutes, then toss the basket. Cook for another 8 minutes or until the fries are golden-brown and crispy.
Notes:
Every air-fryer is different, so cooking time may vary. Be sure to keep an eye on your fries, and adjust cooking time accordingly.

Tips
- Every air-fryer is different, so cooking time may vary. Be sure to keep an eye on your fries, and adjust cooking time accordingly.
- After cutting, soak the potato sticks in cold water for some time, I keep it for 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch, resulting in crispier fries.
- Preheating the air fryer for a few minutes before adding the fries can help them cook more evenly and get crispier.
- Olive oil and avocado oil are both great choices due to their high smoke points. Ensure you toss the fries well to coat them evenly.
- Don’t be shy with seasoning. Salt is essential, but you can also add other spices and herbs for a better taste. you can use garlic powder, paprika, or even a bit of grated Parmesan after cooking.
Conclusion
What makes these fries stand out is their simplicity and taste of course. With just a few ingredients, you can create a delicious side dish or snack that complements any meal.
Another great aspect of this recipe is its health benefits. By using an air fryer and opting for healthy oils like olive or avocado oil, you’re significantly reducing the amount of unhealthy fats compared to traditional deep-frying methods.
